International Council for Sustainability and Practice-Based Research
Tasks
The International Council aims to become a central forum for institutions and experts in practice-based research. To this end it connects scientists, educators and practitioners in all fields who carry out scientific research in trans-national, trans-cultural and interdisciplinary projects with the aim of creating sustainable development.
Aims
The ICS-PBR experts provide the efficient means for international foundations, charitable trusts, private donors and research funding agencies committed to the benefits of practice-based research and its sustainability , to meet professionally with a group of academics possessing expertise in project evaluation and cost-effective funding. helps international foundations, donors and research funds in the field of sustainability and practice-based research to quickly and professionally come together with a group of scientists with expertise in awarding funds and evaluating projects. Thus they can advise institutions and individuals interested in practice-based research in all fields. Beyond this service, the Council works on long term strategic planning in these fields. It also offers advises political policy makers at regional, national and international levels, including leading institutions, NGOs and the European Union. The ICS-PBR acts as a leading scientific lobby for the establishment, structured development and sustainable growth of practice-based research.
Strategy
There are many advisory bodies in the international scientific community but so far none that have focussed specifically on practice-based research and action research. Most excellence boards do not work in an interdisciplinary way. Therefore the ICS-PBR has focussed on two strategic aims:
The ICS-PBR is the first international advisory council to concentrate on practice-based research in an interdisciplinary way. It is able to do this because it possesses an interdisciplinary body of experts, who can examine the specific issues that arise in one particular field or another.
The ICS-PBR pursues an open and transparent policy of bringing about public awareness of the growing significance of practice-based research in all professions and vocations.
Publications
The ICS-PBR publishes its reports, ideas and its decisions regularly in print or via the internet. It uses all means possible to reach a wide audience. Thus descriptive documentations and analytical compendia of practice-based research in the various fields will be regularly published.
Networking
The ICS-PBR sees itself as an organic, flexible and living network. It orientates itself more towards individuals than institutions. Institutional partners can have their own group within the network with the tasks of advising on specific issues of excellence.
Membership
The ICS-PBR consists of permanent members, as well scientists and academics working on specific questions and projects who possess temporary membership, as well as invited observers.
